Heartbreak
“And when you’re consoled (everyone eventually is consoled), you’ll be glad you’ve known me. You’ll always be my friend. You’ll feel like laughing with me. And you’ll open your window sometimes just for the fun of it… And your friends will be amazed to see you laughing while you’re looking up at the sky. Then you’ll tell them, ‘Yes, it’s the stars; they always make me laugh!’ And they’ll think you’re crazy. It’ll be a nasty trick I played on you…
“It’ll look as if I’m suffering. It’ll look a little as if I’m dying. It’ll look that way. Don’t come to see that; it’s not worth the trouble.”
-St. Exupery, The Little Prince
I have lost my dearest, truest and oldest friend and mentor today. I am utterly heartbroken. I am so grateful to have known him. I have never known a better person; I do not much care to imagine a world without him in it. That world is less splendid, less bright, and more cynical. But I can’t go back to the old one.
I have never felt so far away from home.

He was a wonderful man and one of the best story tellers I have ever met. I believe a lot of that has rubbed off on you. I love you and am praying for you. Love, your wife
Can't you just see Uncle Clyde up in Heaven talking to John the Baptist? He is probably talking his ear off, so that John wants to go back to the wilderness. At the funeral, there was a video of Clyde playing John in the Easter pagent at church. The service was absolutely beautiful. All the family from New Mexico and West Texas was there. Daddy's brothers were there. Ashley went to be with Amanda-she stayed with Amanda all day-and Ben came to be with Amanda at the church and cemetary. I think it was the most upbeat funeral I have been to since MY grandma died. I am going to send you pictures. I know how much you hurt. I am sorry that you have to be so far from home and so miserable. But don't feel bad for Clyde. Just think-no more dialysis, a perfect body, eating anything he wants-for the first time in 29 years. Love you, old man.
